The Bright Blue Ocean

By:

Age:

Gwyneth McLoughlin

12

Gwyneth's poem is one of hope and dreams, using the ocean as a metaphor for growing up. It communicates how nature can guide you to find yourself when you feel lost.

She roars in the shade of a tall, bright moon
Her waves roll cold and steep
She floods across the vast unknown
And sinks into the deep
The hulls of shipwrecks once blown
On the ocean floor, they meet
She lends her heart to those who roam
And sings her song to me
The ocean is a gate to your future
She loves you to your core
A mother taking care of her children
So that they have so much more
A world waiting to be discovered
Longing hearts want to explore
She knows treasures await you
The golden sun shines on the shore

spring

Delicate petals and soft flowers
Are cozy seats for bugs
Bees eat the delicious nectar
off the flowers.

Wonders of Nature

I can imagine the scene with the animals playing by the creek.
Amazing how she talks about saying goodbye to childhood being a child herself! Time does go by fast.

magnificant friendship

I love this poem because by the end, I realize that she’s making a subtle but powerful connection between the animals she writes about and childhood. I first visualize animals playing but by the end I visualize children instead. It brings nostalgia to the reader and is very powerful!

magnificant friendship

What a powerful and perfect simile to compare friendship to a seed! Both are powerful and life affirming, and I love how the author uses the word “deep” both literally for a seed, and metaphorically for friendship. Very honest and powerful!

spring

A beautiful poem, because it transports the reader to that essence of spring, that we all know and love. I can see and smell all the sites. My favorite part is how she compares the petals of flowers to being cozy seats for bugs. Wonderful imagery and use of metaphors.
